Surgery

Dogs, cats, rabbits, ferrets, birds, sugar gliders, rodents, reptiles, and even fish have had surgery at RHVH. The hospital is fully equipped with the most advanced anesthesia machines, monitoring equipment, and surgical supplies. The most common surgeries performed include spays, castrations, and mass removals, with other procedures falling into two basic categories: soft tissue (skin, body cavities, GI/urogenital/respiratory tracts) and orthopedics (bones, joints, muscles). As well, specialty machines like a high-end surgical cautery unit and a surgical diode laser unit allows us to perform more complicated procedures such as oncologic or cancer surgery, intestinal surgery (foreign bodies and tumors), urinary stone removal, repair of cranial cruciate ligament tears, patella luxations, basic fracture repair, lacerations, and wound management. Even more advanced surgical procedures are usually performed at specialty/referral hospitals with which we have close relationships.
